A Review of Allschool’s Zookeeper Training Class

One of the biggest misconceptions about homeschooling (that still persists) is that homeschooling parents must teach everything their children learn. This false belief stokes fear in the hearts of many parents who may desire to homeschool, but also must work or those who simply bulk under the weight of being a Teacher Extraordinaire. The very idea makes me break out in a sweat!

Here’s the truth; not only do homeschool parents not have to teach every subject but there is an excellent, online resource available that does the teaching and engagement for you. I’m speaking of Allschool.

Allschool is an innovative educational platform that connects homeschool families to a plethora of online, small-group classes taught by live instructors. Many Allschool classes utilize Classpod Learner, an educational tool exclusive to Allschool that increases the interactive nature of the classes offered by supporting live instruction, but reward systems and other tools that enhance student engagement.

Zookeeper Training Class

My youngest loves animals. She says that she wants to be an animal conservationist when she grows up. The affection she has for all living creatures, especially our two dogs, Charlie and Roscoe, leads me to believe that she may very well make a career out of caring for animals someday. The wonderful thing about homeschooling is that my daughter doesn’t have to wait until she’s older to pursue her passion for animals, but she can start her journey immediately! Although I am no expert on zoo animals, I was able to sign her up for this amazing Zookeeper Training Class held on Allschool.

What We Loved About the Zookeeper Training Class

The Zookeeper Training Class was a standalone, one-time, thirty-minute class session. I thought the thirty-minute class length was perfect for engaging the five-to-ten-year-old age group.  My daughter enjoyed being in an online class with other kiddos her age, and I was quite impressed with how knowledgeable the instructor was about zoo animals. She provided engaging video snippets of animals engaging in life at the zoo as well as ample time for the kids to ask questions and demonstrate the cool facts they already knew. This engaged the kids’ prior knowledge and helped them feel as though they were contributing to the class rather than simply being lectured.

Classpod, the instructional tool that the class was held on added another layer of engagement with the star reward system. My daughter’s face lit up when she received praise and a star for sharing facts about animals. She enjoyed being online with other kids her age, but more importantly, she learned more about caring for zoo animals and the inner workings of a zoo’s operation.

Teachers are always looking for ways in which they can extend a lesson and internalize what they learn. I appreciated that not the Zookeeper’s class included a worksheet at the end that helped her to review what she learned and helped me to facilitate further discussion with my daughter. By the end of the session, my daughter came away from the class inspired to be a zookeeper. This class reinforced her love for animals.
