A Review of Typesy

“a-s-d-f-j-k-l-sem-return” I can still hear my middle school typing teacher, Mrs. Mackey, calling out the keyboard letters as we typed on typewriters. There was something satisfying about the mechanical clicks of the typewriters and the zing of the carriage as we pushed it back into place when we reached the end of our margin.

Back in middle school (nearly 30 years ago), typing class was just something fun to do, but in this digital age, typing skills are essential. I took for granted how vital basic typing skills are until I witnessed my ten-year-old trying to peck out words on the keyboard of our iPad. I cringed, watching him search for letters and, after seconds pass, jab at the keyboard with a finger before starting the laborious process over again.

I began to wonder if this stilted form of typing was the norm in my household. Out of my four children, only my oldest had the typing speed, accuracy, and proper hand placement critical to churning out essays, online forms, and homework assignments efficiently.  I had an eye-roll moment of despair because here was one more life skill on the list I want my kids to have but lack the mental capacity and time to oversee. It was at the zenith of my frustration that I found Typesy.

Homeschoolers, this typing program is the truth! Not only does this comprehensive typing program take your child from pecking at the keyboard to typing proficiency, but they can learn and progress independently!

Typesy is an online keyboarding program that teaches children keyboarding skills like correct hand placement, speed, and accuracy through practice typing sessions and games. Additionally, the Typesy program tracks your child’s progress and adjusts to your child’s skillset and pace of completion.

Designed for Daily, Independent Practice

I am thrilled that my kids can practice their keyboarding skills independently, each day, during their free time. In my experience, an improvement in keyboarding skills takes consistency and if my kids can jump on the computer, they are way more likely to make progress. This program makes it easy for them to simply log in and work, which is a huge peace of mind for me. Additionally, when I’m working with one child when homeschooling, Typesy is an engaging activity the other child can work on.

Interactive, Kid-Friendly Exercises

Interactive activities and colorful animation are necessary to keep my littles engaged, and Typesy delivers. The variety of typing practice, video snippets, game-based activities, and awards for progress ensure that my kids enjoy their keyboarding time. I also love that as a parent; I can track my kid’s progress and adjust the specific settings that decrease or increase the level of difficulty as needed.

Bonus Lessons on Additional Computer Skills for Middle and High Schoolers

In addition to keyboarding skills, Typesy also offers courses on computer skills that are critical for your older children to be competent in. Typesy has courses that teach your teens proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Web Skills. These courses alone are well worth it and another reason why I can’t recommend this online program enough.
